Open source · QEMU/KVM + Docker

Virtualization on the Linux you already have.

XenMox is a Proxmox-like web based hypervisor that is not an operating system — it is a Node.js application with a browser UI for QEMU/KVM virtual machines and Docker containers. Nothing to flash, nothing to reinstall.

v0.1.0public preview · developed in the open

  • QEMU/KVM+ Docker containers
  • noVNCconsole in the browser
  • multi-node& datacenter federation
  • ~300 MBRAM idle, no OS install

Architecture

Two roles, one codebase.

The same folder and the same npm scripts power both. Pick a role per machine — or run both on one box just to try it out.

Main server npm start

The web interface. Serves the UI, manages the local node and every remote node you add to it. Listens on port 3000.

Node agent npm run con-server

A lightweight agent on another machine. The main server drives it over HTTP — create VMs, push ISOs, open consoles. Port 3001.

* one repo, one folder — the role is chosen by the command, not by the install

Capabilities

A hypervisor panel, minus the hypervisor OS.

Everything lives behind one login in one browser tab — on the box under your desk or across a small datacenter.

01

QEMU/KVM virtual machines

Create VMs, attach installer ISOs, grow disks (never shrink), set CPU, memory and NICs — then open a noVNC console in the browser.

02

Docker containers

Images, named volumes, env vars, port maps and CPU/memory limits per container. Live logs, restart rules, background image pulls.

03

One web UI

Tree of datacenters, nodes, VMs and containers. Live stats refresh every three seconds — CPU, memory, disk, IPs, port forwards.

04

Nodes & datacenters

Add remote machines as nodes with a username and password, or link two full datacenters together with a federation token.

05

A login that means business

scrypt-hashed passwords, HttpOnly sliding session cookies, same-site protection and a one-minute lockout after five failed attempts.

06

No OS to install

apt install nodejs qemu…, npm install, npm start. It runs on top of the Linux system you already have and already patch.

Quick start

Running in about a minute.

bash — debian / ubuntu

# 1 — dependencies (Debian/Ubuntu)

$ sudo apt install nodejs npm qemu-system-x86 qemu-utils

$ sudo apt install docker.io  # optional, only for containers

# 2 — get the source

$ git clone https://github.com/phytonhacker/XenMox.git

$ cd XenMox && npm install

# 3 — first run: create the admin account

$ npm start -- --setup && npm start

Download

There is no installer ISO.

Git clone

recommended

Pull the main branch and stay one git pull away from every update.

git clone https://github.com/phytonhacker/XenMox.git
